Upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin with CustomBuild 2.0

In this tutorial, AZDIGI will show you to upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin with CustomBuild 2.0. This will help add Webmail features on your DirectAdmin server to be richer and more stable.

I. What is RoundCube?

Roundcube is an IMAP email client based on the Webmail interface. The most prominent feature of Roundcube is the widespread use of Ajax technology. Roundcube is free and open-source software that is subject to the terms of the GNU General Public License.

When you use DirectAdmin, the Webmail will be RoundCube, and cPanel also uses RoundCube as the default webmail.

II. Why should we need to upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin?

Upgrading RoundCube on DirectAdmin to the latest version will make RoundCube work more stable, fix bugs discovered in previous versions, and help improve the user experience with more new features.

III. How to upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin

To upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin, follow these 3 steps.

Step 1: SSH into your DirectAdmin system

To upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin, we first need to SSH or access your VPS/server with root privileges. If you don’t know how to SSH into your VPS/Server, you can refer to the following tutorial:

After successfully SSH, we continue with step 2 to check the version of RoundCube in use and the latest version at the present time.

Step 2: Check the version of RoundCube in use and the latest version that can upgrade

After successfully SSH, we use the following command to check the version of RoundCube in use on the server and the latest version can upgrade:

sh /usr/local/directadmin/custombuild/build versions | grep RoundCube
    

Here is my result. Here are my results. The version of RoundCube in use is 1.4.9 and the latest version is 1.4.10.

After knowing that the version we are using is the old version, We can continue to step 3 to upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin.

Step 3: The commands upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin

To upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin, your VPS/Server needs CustomBuild 2.0 version. To check the version of CustomBuild you are using, please check out the following short tutorial:

In case your CustomBuild version is lower than 2.0 then you need to upgrade CustomBuild 1.x to 2.0 , you can check out the following tutorial:

Once we have CustomBuild 2.0, we use the following commands to upgrade RoundCube on DirectAdmin:

cd /usr/local/directadmin/custombuild
./build update
./build roundcube
    

Explanation of the above commands:

• Command 1: Move to the custombuild folder.
• Command 2: Update custombuild script.
• Command 3: Upgrade RoundCube to the latest version.

Below is the log when I upgraded RoundCube:

Then we can recheck the RoundCube version with the command in step 2:

sh /usr/local/directadmin/custombuild/build versions | grep RoundCube
    

And here are my results.

IV. Summary

So with just 3 simple steps, you have successfully upgraded RoundCube on DirectAdmin without encountering too many difficulties.

Upgrading software/programs in the process of using DirectAdmin in particular and other systems, in general, will bring many benefits. Improving security is probably the biggest benefit for the system.
