In this tutorial, AZDIGI will guide you to uninstall unused services on DirectAdmin to optimize the usage of VPS/server.
I. Introduction
In the process of administering a VPS/server, we may install a lot of software and some or more of it we will not use. Fortunately, the DirectAdmin control panel has integrated a feature that makes it possible to uninstall unused services on DirectAdmin.
Uninstalling unused services on DirectAdmin will help us optimize capacity on the VPS/server we administer. In addition, removing unnecessary services can also help restrict conflicts between services.
II. How to uninstall unused services on DirectAdmin
To uninstall unused services on DirectAdmin, we need to follow these 2 steps.
Step 1: SSH into your DirectAdmin system
To upgrade the ProFTPD version on DirectAdmin, we first need to SSH or access your VPS/server with root privileges. If you don’t know how to SSH into your VPS/Server, you can refer to the following tutorial:
After successfully SSH, we continue with step 2 to perform commands to uninstall unused services on DirectAdmin.
Step 2: Uninstall unused services on DirectAdmin
We will execute the following two commands to be able to list the services that can be removed without affecting the system:
cd /usr/local/directadmin/custombuild ./build list_removals
Note:
- Command 1: Move into the Custombuild folder.
- Command 2: Execute the command to check for services that are installed but not in use.
Here are the services I can remove on my VPS, including Litespeed, PHP 5.6, Pure-FTPd.
Depending on the situation, you will see different results than mine. However, in any case, DirectAdmin also gives us the command to delete them.
Here I will continue to use the command ./build remove_pureftpd
to uninstall the Pure-FTPd
service.
After the uninstallation was complete, I checked to see if the ProFTPd service, which is also my FTP Server service, was not affected, the answer is No.
Uninstalling these services will not affect the running system, and you can use the ./build remove_items
command to remove all of these services.
III. Summary
So with just two simple steps, you have completed the steps to uninstall unused services on DirectAdmin. This will help you a lot if your VPS/server has run out of space and needs to delete something on the server quickly.
Wishing you success!
